Drawn to You: The Billionaire’s Second Wife

Chapter 19

Xavier couldn’t take a good rest, he was awake till sunrise. The last night wasn’t good for him, and Lilian wasn’t after looking at him.

The argument they had the past evening got her irritated, that she turned her back on him despite them sleeping in the same bed.

She had decided not to leave the house, but will never give him a nice look until she apologizes.

Xavier noticed how strange she’s been acting all night, and decided to know what was going on with her. This is not the lady he knows.

Lilian can never watch him shiver in pain, yet she won’t feel sorry for his condition. And here she is sleeping when he’s at the point of death.

When he queried her about her sudden change, she spluttered at him claiming to get an apology from him before she changed.

Xavier isn’t that man that can ever be controlled by a woman. He is tough and easygoing at the same time. So it’s left for anyone to choose the side he wanted.

He had made it known to her that the apology will be granted as soon as she does the same to his children first.

She starved them and punched a knife in his heart indirectly.

Lilian turned deaf ear to everything he said and left him to visit a friend very early in the morning. She didn’t mind knowing how he was fairing either.

The day wasn’t good for him, so he decided to stay back at home. His health condition was becoming critical and neither his family nurse was picking up his call.

Chloe dashed into the room feeling haunted. She hasn’t set her eyes on her father who is supposed to be leaving at that time.

Tracy and Ben were so baffled too, but we were scared of moving into the room.

“What’s going on, Chloe? You aren’t leaving yet?” Vanessa asked the little girl who stepped out of her father’s room.

She wiped her face and embraced Nessa trying to hold back the tears that had gathered in her eyes.

“Dad is very sick, and no one is taking care of her. I don’t think of going to school again, I’ll take care of my father…” Chloe announced.

Vanessa squatted consoling her. “You need to leave for school, I’m here okay.”

She glanced at her and smiled. “Ma’am Vanessa, you will take care of my father?”

Nessa nodded. “I’ll take good care of him. You guys need to leave now.” She referred to the three children.

Tracy hissed throwing glares at her, she glanced at Ben who leaned on the wall watching them.

“I don’t need your help to care for my father, I’m glad the other lady had left very early in the morning. You two should leave my father, he’s married with three kids…” she remarked.

Vanessa stood on her feet while staring at the girl. She understood how she felt, but couldn’t help it.

The comment Tracy made about Lilian made her shudder. She couldn’t believe the lady would leave her fiance even in a critical condition that might lead to something else.

“Why did she leave? Are you guys having issues with her?” Nessa inquired from them.

The two glanced at each other.

“Why do you care to know? The next step you’re to take now is to leave as well just like she did.” Ben added.

She circled her lips in dismay. “It’s okay, if you two persist that I should go… then I will.” That was all she stated and l Chloe’s room.

Chloe rushed after her into thhasnhasn’t’tfor once loved her sibling’s actions toward the lady.

“Don’t get annoyed towards them, ma’am Vanessa. I beg of you please take care of dad.” The little girl pleaded about breaking out in tears.

She grabbed her handbag and cellphone from the table.

“You heard everything they uttered, and I wouldn’t like to cause issues between us.” She stated.

Chloe shook her head. “I’ll speak to dad about this.”

She rushed out of the room instantly to her father’s room, he was asleep already.

“Dad, you need to speak to Tracy and Ben. They’re against ma’am Vanessa taking care of you while we leave for school. They want to stay back while the lady has sacrificed her day to care for you…” she stated while caressing his shoulder.

Xavier let his eyes open though they narrowed. He kept staring at her while giving a listening ear to all she stated.

“Call me Tracy and Ben immediately.” He ordered her.

She left instantly to meet them moving downstairs. “Dad is calling the both of you. You need to hurryThey”

They both diverted back to the corridor leading to Xavier’s room. Tracy rapped the door open and they stepped in.

“You sent it to us, dad.” Ben referred to him.

He nodded while gripping the bed cover. “I don’t need you to stay back from school because of my help, you are almost late so leave now so the driver will drop you off. Vanessa will care for me.”Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

“What of your fiancee? Isn’t she around to handle the issue?” Tracy queried him.

He tried smiling because he knew his children would be monitoring his movement with Lilian since they haven’t loved her for once.

“Lilian will be back when she’s done with what she left for. As for now, Vanessa will take care of me.” Xavier uttered.

Ben sniffed. “Dad, why not choose between the two ladies. Either Lilian or Vanessa.”

“I don’t even want any of them, you have three kids already,” Tracy added.

He chiseled his face. “You two should shut your mouth and leave for school instantly.”

They all left the room bidding him goodbye.

*********

Xavier enveloped himself with the blanket and was fast asleep when Vanessa twitched into the room.

She had left after Tracy and her brother ordered her to but sighted them when they left for school.

Even at that point, she decided not to leave the house but turned against the thought.

Since Lilian had left him where no one knows, she needs to go look after him. Even without being told, she knew the two must have had a clash last night, majorly because she starved his children.

Chloe had told her when she came to her bakery how his father will take action towards the lady once he comes back and notices that they were without food.

But absolutely, she had concluded that the lady was wrong. She must take care of the kids even if they aren’t hers.

She rolled her eyeballs and stood on her feet ready to lock up her bakery since she hasn’t baked anything yet.

Within minutes, she arrived at the enormous building and had her way into it. Everywhere was as quiet as the graveyard, that you wouldn’t believe a soul is in it.

She climbed up the stairs to Xavier’s room to get him asleep. Trying to leave the root, she noticed him adjusting on the bed.

“Mr. Xavier…” she called him out.

Xavier let his eyes narrow trying to get where the voice came from.

“It’s me Vanessa…” she added making her way back to the bed.

She got seated on the bed placing her palm on his forehead. Gosh! It’s damn hot like water set on a hundred degrees.

“When did this start? Aren’t you going to visit the hospital?” She asked him.

He glanced at her and heaved a big sigh. “I’ve tried reaching either my nurse or doctor, but none of them are picking up my calls.”

She furrowed her brows. “Where is Lilian? She’s supposed to be here?”

“Lilian had been holding grudges on me because I scolded her for starving my children, and then she wanted me to employ her as my manager… I don’t know what’s wrong with her.” He narrated.

Vanessa was shocked. “As the manager.” She muttered within herself.

“Must she take that position? Can’t you get her another job in replace of that?” She inquired from him.

Xavier sniffed. “She persisted in being my manager.”

Vanessa tried shutting her lips towards the issue, she believes they will sort themselves out.

“Anyways, I’ll call my doctor to come over and have a look at you, or rather your driver should take you to your doctor,” she suggested.

He shook his head. “Call your doctor to come over.”

She acceded and grabbed her cellphone, he dialed the doctor’s contact and he picked up on the first ring. She narrated everything to him and he promised to come over within minutes.

“Vanessa, please don’t leave me here.” He pleaded.

She smiled Inwardly, gripping his palm so tight, that he assured him of not leaving.

The doctor arrived some minutes after Vanessa left the kitchen to get him something.

She was ordered by Xavier to let him into his room where he conducted certain examinations on him and promised to get him medications immediately.

Vanessa sat and helped him take the meal until the plate was emptied. She pushed the plate aside and decided to clean him up.

“I want to always feel the warmness of your palm.” He started and gripped her palm again.

She was about to say a word when Lilian moved into the room, she felt goose pimples all over her skin.
