Chapter 822
After leaving the Serenity Cafe, Chloe headed over to the hospital. She had a quick check-up in the gynecology department and got some blood work done. With the report in hand, she walked into the doctor's office.
The doctor glanced at the report and said, "Did you know you're pregnant?" Chloe nodded slightly. She had a bit of a clue. When she saw the HCG levels in the report, it clicked for her. For a moment, her mind went blank. This was totally unexpected. But since she was kind of prepared for it, she quickly came to terms with the news. Little bursts of joy started bubbling up in her heart. It was a magical feeling.
She hadn't noticed anything unusual before. But now, knowing she was pregnant, it felt like she could sense a tiny seed sprouting inside her. The doctor looked over the ultrasound, his expression turning serious.
"Based on the size of the embryo, you're about two weeks along, but your numbers are a bit behind," he said, his tone serious.
A chill ran through Chloe. "What does that mean?" she asked.
"It means the embryo isn't developing ideally. There's a chance of a biochemical pregnancy. You might want to prepare yourself mentally," the doctor explained.
Chloe already had an idea of what this meant but asked anyway, "What's a biochemical pregnancy?"
The doctor elaborated, "Sometimes,
a low-quality embryo will detach
from the uterus on its own, which is a biochemical pregnancy. But don't stress too much about it. It's not quite the same as a miscarriage and won't harm your body. It's like having a period. Next month, you can try again, but I'd recommend a comprehensive check-up first to avoid a repeat."
Leaving the hospital, Chloe felt like a weight was pressing on her chest. It turned out that her upset stomach last night wasn't from pregnancy-induced nausea. The doctor mentioned that hormonal changes causing morning sickness usually kick in after five weeks, and she was only two weeks along.
If it hadn't been for yesterday's incident, she probably wouldn't have thought to get checked at the hospital. Without the visit, she would've just shrugged off any biochemical reaction as a regular period. But now, knowing a little seed had started to grow, only to likely leave, brought a wave of indescribable sadness.
The doctor tried to reassure her, saying it wasn't set in stone. The embryo might still develop normally, and if there's no biochemical reaction in two weeks, she should come back for another check-up.
Despite the doctor's words, Chloe's heart remained heavy. After mulling it over, she decided to keep this from Connor for now. If the pregnancy was likely to be biochemical, telling him would only lead to false hope. If a miracle happens, she'd tell him then.
After spending two days in Riverbrook, Chloe and Connor headed back to Eldridge City. They still had one more invitation to deliver personally-to the Shaw family.

Neil was always supportive of Ruby's endeavors. The Shaw Foundation had a dedicated charity fund, with fifty percent of Shaw Enterprise's profits going into their philanthropic work each year.
They'd just returned recently. Upon their return, they caught wind of quite a bit of drama involving the Sartori family Isaac, ever the instigator, shared all the tactics Claire had been using against

Claire in their younger days. Claire hadn't always been like this. Back then, she was young, just starting college, and interning at a newspaper in her spare time. Not long after she began, Eldridge City was rocked by a major incident: the eldest princess of the Eldridge Elites had been kidnapped by bandits.
