Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Chapter 77

Alora POV

"What's wrong?" I ask as his jaw tenses, his hands remaining clenched down by his thighs.

He doesn't verbally respond, only shakes his head. He won't lie to me but in not telling me, isn't that just the same.

Being in the car with him, with the engine turned off, was starting to challenge my self control. I have to wind down my own window as his scent was becoming more potent from the lack of fresh air. I'm not sure if I can trust myself against the imate bond... It has confused me once before.

"Do you know where she has gone?"

"No, even if I did, I wouldn't tell you." His tone has some bitterness laced within it, something I wasn't used to being on the receiving end from Hector. "Why?"

"I can't have it go back to Than."

"I wouldn't do that...I wouldn't betray your trust."

"You wouldn't have a choice... Than has some kind of hold on you." That bitterness he can taste on his tongue, I can sense it. The corner of his mouth sneers, "He's my mate.."

"I'm your mate Alora. What about me?" He roars, a loud bang resonating within the car as he strikes at the 'steering wheel, his anger eating away at him.

I could sense his wolf was trying to come forward, trying to fight the hold. His chest starts to pant from the struggle within.

I very slowly move to open the car door, I won't be marked forcibly.

As I open the car door and push it ajar, he reaches across me, pulling the car door shut.

The top of his dark brown hair brushing under my nose and I can't withhold the wanton whimper my wolf emits.

Why was everything so complicated. Why do I have two mate bonds.

He lifts his head but not enough to remove that need within me. His lips so close to mine I can feel each exhalation of air. I inhale his exhaled breath, the smell of warm mint making my own mouth saliva. It feels too lustful, inhaling air that has already been in his lungs. How easy it would be for me to place my lips on to his...to taste him.

"Alora." He breathes out, edging slightly closer to me.

As I close my eyes preparing myself for his lips to touch mine, I see Than's face in my mind... the heartbreak I would cause him from just one kiss.

He wouldn't survive it I wouldn't survive hurting him.

"I can't, I'm sorry..." I pull away, my chest heavy with the burden of always breaking somebody's heart...

also my own.

Always torn.

"Did you know I was adopted?" I needed to change the atmosphere in this car, I needed to put my mind solely back on fact finding. Remain focused.

"You adopted...no." Any idea of trying to kiss me now gone as he reacts shocked by my words.

"You don't remember me arriving to the pack?"

"I didn't live at the pack permanently until I was 8. You have always been...there. Always causing me headaches." He chuckles and it makes me smile to know he is thinking fondly back on memories.

But all his memories will have been of me and Than, this was what was hard to explain.

I had always been with Than.

"I think I am related to her...to Kaia." I bite on my lower lip, I know it sounds odd but it can't be a coincidence that we are identical and both have a mate bond with Than.

You think you could be twins, separated at birth?"

"Maybe. It would explain why we are identical, why I am adopted. Did you grow close to her, did you see much of her?"This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

"She lived with me."

"She lived with you..." I recover myself quickly enough from the surprise news of Kaia living with Hector.

Something wasn't adding up. Through marriage she was meant to be the Luna of the Amber Desert pack so why would Hector have her staying at the alpha home. Be in close proximity to his alpha office. She could have been sent to seek out information on his pack. For all he knew, she could have been a spy.

"You're surprised she lived with me?" He questions as I remain silent, considering his reasoning behind it.

"She could have been a spy sent from Than to gain information on you. How did you know you could trust that she really did leave the Amber Desert pack?"

"She joined my pack Alora, she drank my blood...I could sense she had good intent."

"Did she mention where she was from?"

"No, something I am now furious at myself about. I should have looked into her past when she asked to join the pack."

look at the time on the car's media system, I've been here too long. Than will never trust me to leave again.

"I need to head back."

A groan leaves him, before he looks to me, complete sincerity in his offering.

"Are you sure you want to go back? I can show you a different life, a better life. You just need to give our

mate connection a chance."

"It's my home. Plus Than will be waiting for me...I promised him I wouldn't be long."

"It isn't safe for you there anymore, not with him."

"With him?" Jealousy was never attractive on Hector, it wasn't natural to him.

"Alora..."

"Hector, Than would never hurt me." I've gone into defence mode, I didn't like people thinking Than would ever hurt me. He was just passionate about keeping me safe, keeping me as his.

"I'm sure Kaia thought that once. When they married....Alora he forced himself upon her."

A shriek leaves my mouth as my hands instinctively cover my ears. I won't hear such things.

How could he say such a thing. This was beyond pack politics, beyond rivalry for a mate bond.... this was slander against a good alpha. Disgusting behaviour and I'm disappointed Hector would stoop so low. "You're lying."

"I wish I was."

"What, she told you that for herself." My eyes narrow, I won't have lies spread about my Than.

""No..."

"No!"

"No...but she told a young she-wolf who was attacked by one of Than's men when watching our borders. It's not the only thing..."

"I won't listen any more. I want you to take me back."

"Alora..."

"Hector...just take me back!"
