Chapter 1279
As Mrs. Clara asked her question, the entire room fell into an awkward silence.
Mrs. Perez's face tightened with surprise. As she saw the changing expressions of Mrs. Clara and Tiffany, she scrambled to come up with an explanation. But before she could speak, Quincy bluntly stated, "I'm already married."
Tiffany dropped her utensils and her eyes were wide with shock. After a moment, her eyes filled with tears.
Mrs. Clara stood up in anger. "Why didn't you tell me your son was married?" she demanded.
Mrs. Perez quickly shot Quincy a sharp glare. "It's not like that. There's a woman who's been clinging to Quincy, but they ended things a long time ago."
Mrs. Clara scoffed, clearly unimpressed. That kind of excuse might fool others, but not someone as experienced as her. If things were really over, why wasn't that mentioned right away?
Even if what Mrs. Perez said was true, Quincy would still be a divorced man. No matter how good his credentials were, was she really supposed to let her daughter marry someone who had already been married?NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
She grabbed Tiffany's hand, pulling her towards the door, glaring as she said, "My daughter deserves better than this. We're leaving."
Tiffany, still dazed, allowed herself to be led away, but not before glancing back at Quincy with a trace of longing in her eyes.
As they left, Mrs. Perez's anger flared. She turned on Quincy, fuming, "Why did you have to say that? If you had just kept quiet, with the way that girl clearly liked you, this could've been a done deal!" Ignoring his mother's outburst, Quincy interrupted coldly, his gaze sharp and unwavering. "I'm here to ask you something. Did you have anything to do with what happened to Lydia's baby?"
Mrs. Perez froze, her expression hardening. The intense look in Quincy's eyes made her take an involuntary step back.
Realizing she had retreated, Mrs. Perez's expression darkened further. "I'm your mother, and this is how you speak to me?" she snapped.
Quincy said nothing, his eyes fixed on her, cold and unyielding.
"Fine! Go ahead and question me. You've clearly been completely bewitched by that woman. Why don't you just hand me over to the police Mrs. Perez sneered. "You think i'm a murderer, don't you? Then call the cops!"
Quincy's grip on his emotions loosened slightly, as if layers of armor were slowly falling away, exposing the raw, vulnerable heart underneath. His cold gaze shifted,
becoming one of deep sorrove
Seeing this, Mrs. Perez began to panic. She hadn't been afraid before, not when she hurt Lydia, not even when she thought she might get caught. But now, she was scared.
"Son, don't look at me like that. I did it for you," she pleaded. "Lydia will ruin your life if you let her stay! It's not just the rumors. I looked into that man she's involved with. He's the one from the Ford Corporation. It's a massive conglomerate with power far beyond our reach. Your company is just starting out. You stand no chance against them."
But Quincy shook his head. "No, Mom, you don't understand. I don't care about the company."
He never had the kind of ambition others thought he did. He had worked as an assistant to Nash for years and had grown comfortable in that role.
He did not crave more power. The only reason he started his own company was for Lydia, to provide her with a better life.
That was all.
