Carrie's Crush

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

When I got back to class, I hurriedly sat back down on my seat, eager to learn more about the history of America. While my friends said it was boring, I thought it was fun. In my excitement to learn new things, I totally forgot about the new student. I was more focused on the things Mr Karl was saying, eagerly jotting down the things he said.

My friends called me a nerd, I don't think I am one, I just love reading, and finding out new stuff, it is my hobby, I enjoy the serenity I get from books, and the excitement I feel finding out new things. It was refreshing every time. I was well aware that my friends did not share my views, and probably didn't completely understand me, but they let me be me, without discriminating me, even if they thought I was boring and no fun.

From my side eye I could see Sophie fiddling with her phone, I knew she was texting someone, most likely a guy. I didn't see the reason for distracting myself with boys when I could have knowledge instead. I think it's a complete waste of my valuable time.

Soon Mr Karl's time was up, and I heard a collective sigh of relief from all my classmates, including Andrina and Sophie. I sighed too, but it was not a sigh of relief, I didn't want the class to end, I enjoyed it too much.

"We have chemistry next!" I exclaimed excitedly. My friends frowned. I didn't understand them, at all. They didn't like any classes we had, except Andrina, she loved Home Ec. But Sophie, I don't think she loved any of the classes.

I packed my books hurriedly, as I didn't want to miss out on the next class. Then I remembered our new student. I raised my head to scan the classroom, a few students who didn't run out as soon as the bell rang littered the classroom. All the faces I saw were familiar. I frowned, that is odd, I was sure the Principal said he was in my class.

"Hey guys, have you seen the new student?" I asked them as my eyes still scanned the place, just in case I missed anything.

"I know he was in our class, Mr Karl introduced him while you were out." Andrina informs me.

"Well I don't see him." I said irritatedly. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

I didn't want to walk around school looking for someone who is good at hiding, and miss my classes. I pushed my glasses up my nose and groaned. He was not here.

"Chill out, we might pass him in the hallways, let us go." Sophie tells me. I nodded. Swinging my backpack on my shoulders. Our hands managed to link again as we walked out of the class.

"Did you see the new student tho? He is to die for." Sophie sighed smiling. I knew that smile.

"Every guy is to die for to you Soph." I tell her rolling my eyes.

"No seriously, have you met the guy? He is tall, and has this amazing brown eyes. If you felt stuffy in class, I'm pretty sure the heat was coming from him." She defended.

"Honestly, the guy is beautiful. Like really really beautiful." Andrina added.

I groaned, just when I thought I wouldn't hear about their boy talk for a while, boom, this new guy had to show up.

We got to the class, thankfully Miss Pearl was not here yet, well not thankfully, because I was sure they won't let me rest until I could describe him to someone else without even meeting the guy.

"What else does he have, a voice deeper than the ocean? Silker than my hair?" I asked sarcastically as I sat down.

"Really?" Sophie said in a dead pan voice. I shrug.

"The guy sounds unreal, I mean really beautiful?" I saw bringing out my books from my bag, getting ready for another round of learning. Learning was so exciting!

"I'm telling you, this girl will be a nun, mark my words." Sophie says going back to her phone. I chuckle.

"At this point, I think you will be a nun.." Andrina said shaking her head in amusement.

"Hey guys! Have you seen the transfer student?" Someone exclaimed. She looked so flustered. Her hair was sticking in every direction, her cheeks were red, and she was sweaty. Her smile was too wide. Everyone knew her, she was always hyper. I don't even know why.

"Yes we have Kara." Sophie said rolling her eyes. Kara just frowned at her and went back to her announcement.

"He is so dreamy!" She said with a far away look in her eye. My expression changed from uncertain to plain disgust. What exactly was wrong with teenage girls this days? What happened to goals and dreams? Why boys?

I shook my head bitterly, and went back to my books, trying to read the lessons from last time. As I had nothing to do in that moment. Slowly, Kara and her boyfriend trouble became a background noise, as I dived into the unique world of chemistry.

Few minutes later, Andrina shook me, bringing me back into the real world, as Miss Pearl was here. She smiled apologetically.

"I'm sorry I'm late, I had important stuff to do." She said.

I just smiled, but some students still murmured.

"Okay, let's do the roll call." She said, just before she started to call out the names from the register. Something she always did, before her classes.

"Carolyn Anderson." She called. Her eyes landed on me.

"Here, Miss Pearl." I say. She nodded.

"Happy birthday."

"Thank you Miss."

I was so happy everyone remembered today.

"And last but not the least, Joseph Wilson." She called. No answer.

He was in this class too? I looked around us, no unfamiliar face.

"Joseph Wilson." She called again.

I groaned in frustration, I knew I would be the one sent out to look for him.

"Last call for Joseph Wilson." She sounded irritated.

"Miss, he is the new student, I haven't showed him around yet, I don't think he knows where we are, let me go find him." I was forced to say. The things we did for our offices.

She smiled at me,

"Thank you Carrie."

I smiled back at her and leave the class, annoyed at this Joseph Wilson for making me miss half of two classes.
