29. There Is A Big Person Involved
About a week later, Ella was discharged from the hospital. She wasn’t absolutely fine yet but good enough to move around. Today, Lily had gone to her place to aid her as Ella was the one who lives at home. She cheeered her up by bringing up jovial conversations, she spent two nights with her just to show her how much she’s with her during this trying times.
Afterwards, Lily went home. After Lily returned to Drake Bell’s villa, Ella received a knock on her door. Wondering whom it was, she managed to walk up to the door and on opening it, she saw a strange look, “how can I help you?”
“Hi…” Amelia was all smiles, “I’m Amelia, Lily’s sister…”
“Lily didn’t tell me she has a sister…” Ella wasn’t in a good mood and she was still feeling pains in some of her joints so she wants this person standing before her to get done quickly and leave.
“Well… She probably hasn’t seen any reason to tell you about me. I actually came to visit you at the hospital when you were in a coma. Can you let me in, at least?” Amelia asked.
Hearing that she came to check up on her, Ella’s attitude to her eased then she opened the door wide for her to walk in. In a jiffy, both women were seated opposite eachother in the living room.
“I was so sad when I heard about your predicament, how are you doing now, Ella? Are you healing up faster?”
“I am and thank you,” Ella also forced out a smile. But she wondered why she didn’t come all these times that Lily had been with her. Anyways, she may mean no harm, Amelia will tell Lily about it later.
Amelia then rested well on the chair, took a while before she spoke again, “I can see that you and my sister are close…”
“We are.”
Amelia hummed then dropped her handbag beside her, “Ella, I need you to convince Lily to leave New York.”
“Why is that?” Ella suddenly picked, “wait… Are you Drake Bell’s childhood sweetheart?” Lily had actually told Ella a lot of things about her and Drake Bell during their hangout at the club.
Amelia was shocked at the description. Obviously, Lily must have told her a lot about herself and Drake Bell, “I am.”
“Oh! Your mum had tried to send Lily away before but it didn’t work but here you are, thinking I can help you?” Ella asked and smirked mockingly, “you are the one getting married to Drake Bell on the 15th of next month but you are also the same person feeling threatened by Lily who clearly has no feelings for Drake Bell.”
“Why don’t you put yourself in my shoe, huh? Let’s assume you are about getting married to your man but there is another woman living in his house, and you clearly know your man and that woman has a romantic past, how would you feel about it?” Amelia asked.
“It’s not about how I’ll feel about it, it’s about what I’ll do about it and it’s simple. I’ll speak to my man to get rid of that woman otherwise, I’ll cancel whatever is going on between us. He’s either picking me or picking the other woman,” Ella said.
Ella added, “I just indirectly told you what to do.”
“A man like Drake Bell doesn’t like to be told what to do…”
“Then I guess you have no place in his heart. If you can’t even communicate your pain to him. Trust me, that kind of man is not for you, go for someone else,” Ella said.
“I didn’t come here so you can advise me. Will you help me to convince Lily to leave NewYork or not?”
“Stop dreaming! You should leave my house now,” Ella said.
Amelia stood angrily, “Ella, you can’t blame me for what’s about to befall you.”
“What the fuck!” Ella stood angrily, “are you threatening me? Get out of this house, bitch!”
Amelia walked out without saying another word.
Whereas, while Lily was playing games with her kids at the field behind Drake Bell’s villa, she received a call from Ella and on answering it, she immediately asked, “Ella, how are you doing?”
“Lily, I’ve been arrested.”
Lily’s heart skipped. She had thought Ella called her to thank her for spending time with her. Who in the world arrests a sick woman?
“Why were you arrested?” Lily asked.
“The policemen stormed my house this evening and found a deadbody in my bathroom, I don’t know how that came about. I am being accused of murder,” Ella said.
She quickly added, “earlier, Amelia had come to my house telling me to convince you to leave NewYork but I told her to go to hell. But before she left, she threatened me and that same night, I was arrested. This is clearly a set up and it’s a serious case.”
“What station are you?” Lily asked and Ella answered at once. Afterwards, Lily promised to be there soon.
“Mum, what’s wrong?” Jayden asked, seeing how serious his mom was on phone.
“My friend got arrested. I need to go to the station to see how I can help,” Lily said.
“Mum, what if you are detained too?” Isabella didn’t want her mother to go to the police station.
Lily smirked, “I have done nothing wrong. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine ” then she kissed Isabella in the forehead. “I promise we’ll play games again next weekend.”
“Okay,” the kids nodded. Lily then lead the kids inside. Afterwards, she went to Drake Bell’s room then to his study but couldn’t find him so she asked the butler where he was but he replied by saying he wasn’t anywhere in the villa.
Hence, Lily called Drake Bell and once she answered, she spoke, “hi Drake…”
“Hi…” Drake Bell’s emotionless voice came through.
“Erm… Ella was arrested. She was accused of murder but I know this is a set up, can you help, please?”
“You know what happen the last time I tried to help her, right?” Drake Bell asked.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
“Drake… It’s not my fault. Please help us,” Lily pleaded.
“Why should I? When you can simply call the man you go on dates with to help. Excuse me!” Then he hung the call up.
Lily felt very embarrassed. What was she even thinking? Why would she ask Drake Bell for help? Although they were living together and have kids between them, they have no personal relationship that she can count on.
Lily soon got inside her car. How would she help Ella from this case? Murder case is a very serious case, she can’t watch her friend go to jail.
She then summoned a lot of courage to call her boss, Alexander Bell. Although she had gone on dates with him many times, she still wasn’t so free with him. That’s because he’s mostly strict, mysterious and unpredictable. Once she called his line, he answered.
“Lily, how are you?” His voice was very calm and welcoming.
Lily thought it would be cold and distance, then she responded, “I’m fine… sir.”
She then spoke after a moment of silence, “sir… Ella was arrested, she was framed for murder.” She waited for his reaction.
“Framed? How sure are you that she didn’t kill someone?”
“Kill? I trust my friend a hundred percent, she can’t hurt anyone.” Lily said.
“Send the station’s name in a text message, I’ll join you there,” Alexander Bell said.
Lily heaved a sigh of relief on seeing that Alexander Bell was willing to help. She hung the call.
Lily texted Alexander Bell the address and started the ignition of the car. About fifteen minutes later, she arrived at the station. On stepping down, she looked around to see if she can sight Drake Bell. She soon saw him walking towards her but alongside Mason, his assistant.
She walked up to him immediately. “thanks for coming through, sir. I owe you a lot.”
“Of course you do.”
That wasn’t the response Lily was expecting from him but she ignored.
“Are you very sure she’s not a type of who can kill?” Alexander Bell asked. “I don’t want to end up vouching for a murderer. It would stain my reputation.” He tried to explain the consequence of trying to help her on this sensitive case.
“She didn’t commit the murder, sir. I already spoke to her. She was clearly set up and my sister is the suspect here,” Lily said.
“Your sister?” Alexander asked and Lily responded with a yes. She went further to explain why she thinks that Amelia was the one who set Ella up.
“That makes sense to an extent.” Alexander said.
Soon, the three adults walked inside the police station. Alexander Bell wasn’t really known by many as he barely appears in public and love to stay hidden but he pulled up a few strings that made him soon find his way inside the office of the Chief of Police.
Alexander Bell gestured for Lily to explain what she had explained to him to the chief of police to which she did. She added, “Ella is just healing up so she can’t do such.”
“Maybe your words would have made sense, miss. Lily but the dead body we found in miss Ella’s bathroom wasn’t just any random body, it was her ex boyfriend’s body. According to our investigation, miss Ella and her ex boyfriend are mortal enemies, infact, we found threatening messages from miss Ella to her boyfriend after they broke up on the ex boyfriend’s phone.”
Hearing this from the chief of police, Lily furrowed her brow in shock. She didn’t know what to think for some seconds.
“That dead body wasn’t a random body, it was her ex boyfriend.” Alexander Bell emphasized to Lily then added, “are you sure you don’t want to talk to your friend again?”
Lily insisted and said, “Ella would never kill anyone.”
Alexander Bell then place an ‘off the book offer’ to the chief of police, then he added, “permanently delete all proves and let her go.”
Of course, the offer was insanely too good. “I could have buried this case for your sake, Mr. Alexander. Even if you had offered me half of what you are offering me now, I would have done it but I’m sorry, I can’t.” The chief of police spoke, “there is a big person involved in this case.”
“And who is that?” Alexander Bell asked.
“Drake Bell, sir.” The chief of police answered and added, “my hands are tied, I’m sorry.”
