And The Daddy Is… The Infertile Guy?!

Chapter 73

Chapter 73

There’s something down there!”

“Looks like a tomb!”

A buzz of excitement rippled through the crowd.

Leaning heavily on his cane, Warren forced his way through the onlookers. The backhoe beside the comerstone had dug in deep, shattering mud across the ground and revealing the entrance to a tomb.

Bainbridge went pale, his entire body trembling. “Grandpa, we’ve got a real problem!”

Warren’s face turned steely. “Didn’t you conduct an archaeological survey before starting construction?”

Bainbridge stammered, unable to speak. He had greased some palms at the planning office in his hurry to start the project and embarrass Howard. He used his connections to get an expedited permit.

Who would have thought that underneath the land in West Suburb lay a historical tomb?

“Idiot! Complete idiot!” Warren fumed, his face reddening as he thumped Bainbridge with his cane.

“What do we do now, Grandpa?” Bainbridge was on the verge of tears.

Warren took a deep breath. “Jarvis, lock down the information. Farrah, tell the guests the Chadwick family will generously reward anyone who keeps this quiet.”

They needed to silence the rumor mill.

With a sly grin, Valor whispered among the crowd, “This place used to be part of our old stomping grounds! Our great–grandfather said a princess was buried here. Who knew the tale was true?”

Warren shot him a withering look. “Don’t spout nonsense, Valor. There’s no princess‘ tomb here. It’s just an ordinary grave.”

Valor sheepishly stuck out his tongue.

“The folks from the Cultural Affairs Office are here, sir!”

“And they’ve brought a crowd with professional equipment! They received a tip–off about a princess‘ tomb! They’re accusing the Chadwick Group of illegal construction!”

It was a trap, planned and precise. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Someone dared to challenge the Chadwick Group in Bayridge City!

Overwhelmed by frustration, Warren’s face turned green, and he fainted.

“Father!”

“Grandpa!”

“Someone call an ambulance!”

The scene descended into chaos as the Cultural Affairs Office methodically sealed off the area and surveyed the soil. The Chadwick Group’s construction team was ousted from the site.

A grand groundbreaking ceremony had ended in disarray.

There was a murmur of disbelief among the onlookers.

*This project was supposed to be a surefire success. How on earth did a tomb pop up out of nowhere?! have hoped to ride the Chadwick Group’s coattails, but now I’m glad I stayed out of it”

it’s as if Summit Corp had it all figured out. I heard a rumor that Bainbridge staked 20% of Chadwick Group shares against Summit Corp’s, betting on a successful development of the Utopia Skylines Project:

Could Summit Corp have known about the tomb all along?”

“Nah, probably Just luck. This year, Summit Corp is relocating their headquarters to Bayridge City, They’ve played their first move brilliantly. Who would dare underestimate them now?”

“I wonder who the mysterious founder of Summit Corp is.”

What was supposed to be a win–win for the Chadwick Group and Summit Corp had become Summit Corp’s solo victory.

And potentially, a chance to snatch up 20% of the Chadwick Group’s shares was a masterful play, indeed!

That was admirable and formidable!

Listening In, Vivien paled at the thought. The Chadwick Group had already sunk a billion into the project, all for naught. And what about Bainbridge’s inheritance?

“Vivien, your taste in men is questionable,” Valor couldn’t resist adding fuel to the fire. “Since Bainbridge got involved with you, he’s been out of luck.”

“Shut up! Don’t talk nonsense!”

If the main branch of the Chadwick family caught wind of this, Bainbridge would surely break up with her.

“Gwendolyn is the jinx! She’s the one! It’s been one disaster after another since she married into the Chadwick family!” Vivien retorted, agitated.

“Ha! From what I see, Howard is doing better than ever. She’s his good luck charm!” Valor wouldn’t stand anyone badmouthing Gwendolyn.

“Maybe your family has deliberately set up this land to ruin Bainbridge! Just wait!” Vivien stormed off, her mind racing for a solution.
