And The Daddy Is… The Infertile Guy?!

Chapter 29

Chapter 29

“How could I ever let you go! Stop playing the saint, I know you’re a whore,” Scott snarled, trying to drag Gwendolyn towards the lounge next door.

“Get off me!”

Gwendolyn felt feverish and uncomfortable. Her fingers slipped into her cuff and pulled out a silver hairpin, jabbing it fiercely.

“Argh!” Scott howled in pain.

She leaned against the wall, clutching the pin, feeling weak all over.

“So, you want to play hard to get? Well, I’m not taking no for an answer!” Scott barked, his face flushed with anger and embarrassment.

No sooner had the words left his mouth than he was sent flying with a well–placed kick.

“You bastard!” Nathan taunted as he gave Scott a couple more kicks for good measure. “Scumbag!”

“You’ll pay for this, man!” Scott whimpered as he scampered away, nursing his bruised ego more than his injuries.

“In a society ruled by law, I’m just doing my civic duty!”

Meanwhile, Howard stooped to scoop Gwendolyn up in his arms. His upper body strength was evident beneath his thin shirt, the contours of muscle perfectly outlined as he lifted her onto his lap.

Gwendolyn cried out with a mix of fear and relief, “Mr. Chadwick…”

“Let’s go home.”

With a soothing tone, Howard signaled to his driver, who began pushing his wheelchair out of

the venue.

The onlookers from the private room emerged just in time to see Nathan striding away and Scott nursing a decidedly rearranged face.

They exchanged puzzled looks before Mamie spoke up, “Who was that guy? Where’s Gwendolyn?” Could her big payday be slipping away?

Scott darkened his face. “Some meddler! His clothes weren’t even designer. I don’t know where Gwendolyn finds these lovers. She’s not exactly picky!”

“Should we ask your uncle about it?” Mamie suggested with a hint of concern in her voice.

“No need!” he gritted his teeth. “There’s no point in bugging my uncle with this minor incident!” But his eyes promised that this was far from over.

Outside the grand hotel.

Nathan slid into the driver’s seat and immediately noticed Howard and Gwendolyn huddled together in the backseat. Raising an eyebrow, he reported, “Got the scoop. That dude was Gwendolyn’s admirer and has been chasing her for years with no luck. He tried to seal the deal tonight with a last–ditch effort.”

“Gwendolyn is not careless,” Howard murmured, puzzled at how she’d gotten so intoxicated.

“They were drinking a kind of spirit, which tastes light like lemonade. Easy for a sheltered girl like her to be caught off guard,” Nathan explained. The alcohol content in those drinks was deceptive. Even seasoned drinkers could be floored by a couple.

Clearly, someone knew Gwendolyn’s weaknesses all too well.

Nestled in Howard’s embrace, Gwendolyn snuggled closer and murmured, “You’re so cool to the touch.”

Her throat was on fire, her cheeks burning, her whole body aflame.

Howard tried to pull away, but she clung to him.

Nathan couldn’t resist teasing them, mimicking in a falsetto, “Honey, I’m so hot…”

“Shut it.”

“Aw, come on, honey.”

“Nathan!” Howard’s stern voice was a clear warning.

After a cough to clear his throat, Nathan got down to business, “About tonight, how do you want to handle it? Should I send someone…”

“Let’s not make a spectacle. Bainbridge is watching me.”

“Alright, then. We’ll let the punk slide,” Nathan conceded, referring to their clandestine meeting earlier that evening.

“I didn’t say we’d let him off,” Howard interjected, his voice low and chilly as he issued a few quiet commands. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Nathan gave a thumbs–up, impressed. “Howard, you never disappoint!”

The car continued on to a cozy villa.

As Nathan helped Howard out of the car, Marina hurried out at the sound of their arrival, “Oh my, what happened to Mrs. Chadwick?”
