"Work is important, but so is your health. Make sure you're resting enough. Alright then, if you need to go, I won't stop you," Mr. Jasper Sr. said, before turning to Hunter, motioning with his hand for him to hand over the folder and make sure Mia got it. Mia stood and said her goodbyes. "Take care of yourself, Grandpa."
Mr. Jasper Sr. was the only person who treated her well. She just wished he could stay healthy forever, free from the pain of illness.
He smiled warmly, "You take care, too. Now, hurry home."
As she made her way outside, Hunter stayed put, unmoving.
Mr. Jasper Sr. nudged him with his foot. "Go hold an umbrella for Mia, you fool!"
Hunter was like a block of wood, utterly clueless about how to act. It seemed Mia was the only one who didn't mind and was willing to stay by his side.
Hunter furrowed his brows, "She can hold it herself. She doesn't need my help."
In his mind, Mia was completely capable, able to handle anything on her own, and didn't need his help at
all.
Mr. Jasper Sr., clearly fed up, shook his head and headed upstairs without another word. If he kept. talking, he felt like he would have a heart attack.
Hunter, still frowning, grabbed the folder and stepped outside.
Rain was falling steadily, and Mia, already pregnant, was carefully walking down the steps, lifting her dress to avoid tripping. She had to be cautious now. One wrong move, and she could lose the baby.
Hunter stood at the door, watching her for a moment, his thoughts swirling. His phone rang, snapping him back to reality. Seeing Jenna's name on the screen, he answered.
"Hunter, I'm bleeding! The doctor says the baby might not make it! I'm so scared, what should I do?"
Jenna's sobs sounded genuine. This wasn't an act.
Hunter's expression darkened. "I'll have Sam contact the doctor for an examination. I'll be there soon." Jenna had gone through so much to get pregnant, and if she lost this baby, it would devastate her. "Come quickly!" Jenna's voice trembled as she urged him on.
After hanging up the phone, Hunter grabbed an umbrella from the stand and hurried into the rain.
