KNIGHT
“Knight, get out of there now!” Nirvana sounded panicking over the phone.
“What’s going on, Nirvana?”
“I don’t have time to explain. Just get out of there and come directly to the vineyards.”
For a moment, I froze until she screamed, “Please!”
“All right, sweetheart.” I just hung up the call when everyone in the building screamed.
I quickly linked Luka, who was waiting in the parking lot. “Ready the car. Something’s going on.”
“Yes, alpha. The werewolves are coming after you. I just hit a wolf but saw five more entering the building.”
“Shit. Return to the vineyards if I don’t make it there in three minutes. They need you there.”
“No. I’m not leaving you behind. Luna and the others can handle themselves. You’re my alpha.”
“Damn it, Luka!” I dashed outside my office only to be halted on the spot. One of my staff was on the floor, lying in his own pool of blood. Everyone erupted into a frenzy, screaming and running in different directions to save their own lives. I smelled a lot of fear. It was overwhelming.
At this moment, there was no point in hiding what I was. I may not be able to save everyone, but I needed to stay alive to fight our most terrifying enemy.
Then a big black wolf just strode in- he was an alpha. Then, a dark, feral expression glinted in his bloody eyes, screaming for a kill. He snarled his fangs out, a low growl reverberating from his throat as he slowly stalked towards me.
My wolf stirred inside me as anger simmered out, sensing threats everywhere, unleashing his true nature. I had to resist the urge not to wolf out in public.
It might mean nothing to these werewolves to break the werewolf law by showing their true nature to humans, but I wouldn’t do it. I was better than them.
We were both vicious and wanted a kill, but I stepped back towards my office and dashed inside.
I hadn’t shifted, but the alpha wolf launched inside, breaking into the wall, and glass shattered into the floor.
With the urge to defend myself, my bones suddenly snapped, fur erupted over my skin, and my body contorted into a wolf. Clothes were shredded on the floor, and I lunged at the black wolf.
We flung across the office. Things clattered everywhere, papers flying in the air. He screamed as I bit into his shoulder.
With his wolf almost the same size as mine, he spun me around, throwing me off balance. I crashed down onto my desk. I hadn’t gotten up; he quickly charged at me and sunk his claws deep into the skin on my chest.
Growling in pain and rage, I caught him on his leg, tearing off the flesh. My eyes drifted to his neck, but his fangs came first, piercing my skin and sinking his teeth into my shoulder.
Losing in this fight and dying alone was far worse than the pain I felt. And it was not an option. I had far more enemies to fight than this asshole.
Exhaustion dragged my breathing, and my body screamed in agony, haunting me with unending pain, blood dripping on the floor. But I couldn’t let him win, knowing my mate was waiting for me.
Fury and rage tightened every muscle in my body. My heart hammered in my chest. As he snarled out, about to bite me on the neck, I spun around, immediately extended my claws out, tore their way into his abdomen, and blood bathed my body. Snarling, I brought my teeth into his neck and sunk in deep until he whimpered his last breath.
With pain searing my shoulder and my chest, my head snapped at the footsteps against the broken glass. A violent growl erupted from my throat.
“Alpha, it’s me.” Luka rushed towards me, eyes widened in fear as he saw me lying in the pool of blood. “Shit. You’re hurt.”
I shifted back. My shoulder was severely wounded, and so was my chest. I could feel I was not healing. “You, too.”
“I’m fine.” He had claw scratches on his arm, but I was more injured than him. “We have to get out of here.”
“How many wolves are still here inside?”
“I only killed one when I sneaked in.” He put my unaffected arm around his shoulder as he helped me up. “Who’s that fucker?”
“Eloh.”
Shocked, he stared at me. “Eloh Hartwick?”
“Yeah.” I hissed in pain as I staggered to take a step.
“Let me carry you, alpha.”
“No. I specifically told you to get the hell away from here. You just disobeyed my command.”
“I’ll take my punishment later once we get home safe.”
Our heads snapped towards the hallway when we heard a surge of wind and whining, followed by a loud thud, glass breaking downstairs.
Luka and I shared a look. Sure, hell, he saw the same fear in my eyes.
“Let me hide you in the bathroom.”
I chuckled as I sucked a breath. “You can’t die alone, Luka. I’m sorry I failed you.”
“Alpha, you’re losing a lot of blood and getting paler. Why are you not healing?”
“Because I was injured before.”
“Any moment now, you will collapse, and I’d rather die saving you than-” His words were cut short when a feral growl erupted in the hallway.
We waited.
Holding my breath, I found the strength to stand but could no longer shift. My stamina was draining faster than I thought.
Luka went into defense mode, shifting and shielding me, but I heard nothing since then but smashing and metal scraping against the wall.
I let go of a ragged breath as I leaned against the wall, dragging myself down the floor. My eyes fluttered closed, but I was able to grip his leg. “Leave me, Luka. Save yourself. That’s an order.”
He shifted back. “The hell, alpha. We die together.”
“Don’t be stupid-” I shivered.
“No!” That was the last word I heard before I passed out.

“Is he healing?” Nirvana asked, her grip tightening around my hand.
“It’s only been three hours, Luna, and he lost a lot of blood,” Duncan said.
“I know. I’m sorry. I was just so terrified.” She pressed my hand onto her lips. “You look like you could take a rest, too. No one needs immediate care anymore.”
“Yeah, but if these monitors will alarm, call me immediately.”
“I will, doc. Thank you.”
I wanted to open my eyes, but I still felt weak, and my shoulder and chest still burned in pain.
“Hey, baby. If you can hear me, just grip my hand. I want to know if you’re okay.”
“Just a kiss will heal me quickly,” I said, my voice cracking.
“Knight? Oh, my God.” Her heartbeat raced. Despite the dryness of my lips, I felt her lips pressed against mine. And she was still so closed, her breathing fanning my face. “Hey. Good to hear your voice.”
I tried cracking my eyes open. The first thing I saw was her eyes, which looked like she had been crying. “Beautiful.”
“You made us all worry.”
I tried to move, but she stopped me, raising the head of the bed a little.
“How bad is it?”
“Kaleb is wounded, but you’re worse. Tucker and Roisin got scratches, but they are healing in their home. Luka is healing.” She tipped her chin to her right. “He never wanted to leave you.”
I slightly turned my head to Luka. He was curling into a ball on the bed with bandages around his arm. “You risked your life again.”
“Well, shit. I can’t let you die while I’m waiting for you to pick me up from the pack house.”
“Not funny.” I chuckled.
“It’s not a question of which life I would save, Knight. Our pack, and you.”
“Thank you.”Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Her eyebrow shot up. “Oh, that’s new. No curses and yelling?”
“Shut up and kiss me.”
She smiled, but I still saw the worry in her eyes before she kissed me.
“What’s wrong?”
Califf’s compound is under attack. Hence, Zarah had to leave, and Shadow couldn’t come and heal you.”
“Did you hear anything from them?”
“Not yet.”
“I killed Eloh. That son of a bitch.”
“I saw his body.” Tears rolled down her cheeks. “When I didn’t see you first behind Luka, but blood. I thought it was you.”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.”
She looked up as she wiped her tears. Emotions stirred in her chest and her thoughts. “I was late as I was trying to help the pack, but my mind and heart were always with you all the time.”
“You did great. You did the right thing. At least we have one last enemy to fight against.”
She kissed me on my forehead. “Whatever happened between us these past few days, I forgive you. I hope you can forgive me, too.”
“There’s nothing to forgive, Nirvana. It’s been hell without you, and knowing you hated me is worse than the pain I feel right now. I will always love you, no matter what happens between us.”
“For Goddess’s sake. Just kiss already.”
We turned to Luka, who was just stretched out in bed.
“Can’t be more of a bad timing, can you?” A low chuckle rumbled in my chest.
“I’m glad you’re awake, Alpha.”
Nirvana got up and went to hug Luka. “I owe you.”
My wolf stirred. “I also need a hug, Nirvana.”
“We need more than that, Knight. I can feel him coming.”
