Chapter 1029
After a long while, he finally opened his eyes again.
"Put her down."
At this moment, Mrs. Kaur was barely breathing, more air leaving her than entering.
She lay on the floor, covered in wounds, and soon the floor was stained red.
"Mom! Mom!" Nola rushed over and held her tightly in her arms.
"Don't call an ambulance, call a private doctor," Oakley said, sounding suddenly very tired, and then he went back to his room.
Dariel called the private doctor, and several servants came over to lift Mrs. Kaur onto the sofa.
"Her injuries are all superficial; the whip didn't hit her bones," Dariel said, though he wasn't a medical expert, he knew a bit about whips.
"Nola, don't be too sad. Auntie will be fine soon," Carley said, offering some lukewarm comfort.
Seeing Mrs. Kaur in such a miserable state was indeed satisfying. This woman had committed many evil deeds, harming numerous families and franchisees. Her current fate seemed like divine mercy. It was already good enough that Oakley hadn't killed her.
The private doctor arrived quickly with his medical kit. After hurriedly bandaging Mrs. Kaur's wounds, he examined her body. "Although the injuries are superficial and didn't reach the bones, she will need to stay in bed for about twenty days to recover."
The doctor had seen many injured patients but had never seen someone so severely whipped.
"Will my mom have any lasting effects?" Nola asked nervously.
"No, but some of the more severe wounds may leave ugly scars," the doctor said while writing a prescription. "I'll prescribe some ointment to be applied twice daily. It will help with wound healing. She also needs to take oral antibiotics to prevent infection."
The doctor handed the prescription to Nola. "If there are any issues, call me. The patient shouldn't bathe until the scabs form in about ten days."
Nola thanked the doctor and saw him out.
Carley muttered quietly, "Ten days without a bath? She'll stink."
Dariel knocked on her head lightly. "Why do you care so much? Let's go back."
Meanwhile, far away in H Rovirsa, Clare received a call from Old Mrs. Hipps. "The President is hosting a banquet tomorrow night for his son's recognition ceremony. We've received an invitation. Can you and Sylvia come back?"
Clare hesitated but decided to be honest. "Mom, Sylvia's Longevity Pharmaceuticals is having some issues. She might not be able to come back. Let me ask her."
Old Mrs. Hipps got worried upon hearing about the trouble. "What happened? Is Mollie feeling better?"
A series of questions made Clare's head spin.
Seeing Old Mrs. Hipps getting anxious, Clare reassured her. "Mom, Sylvia is handling it. Mollie can be discharged today. Don't worry; I believe Sylvia can manage." "That's good to hear. It's best if you can come back for the President's banquet. If not, your dad and I will go," Old Mrs. Hipps said, though she still felt uneasy. "What exactly happened? Just tell me."
"It's... a murder case," Clare decided it was better to be straightforward to prevent Old Mrs. Hipps from worrying more.
"A murder case? How could Sylvia get involved in such a case in Aettosa?" Old Mrs. Hipps grew more concerned. "If necessary, I can send some family members who understand the law to help."
"No need, Mom. Sylvia has people here too. Just wait for news. If we can resolve it quickly, we'll come back," Clare comforted Old Mrs. Hipps before hanging up.
Mollie walked in with the doctor's report and saw Clare looking troubled. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, Mom wants us to return to Aettosa tomorrow," Clare said, glancing at the report. "No issues; we can proceed with the discharge."
Mollie smiled playfully. "All thanks to Sylvia. If she hadn't come, I'd probably still be in a coma!"
"Let's go home first. I'll handle the discharge paperwork; you wait here."
Clare kissed her forehead and left.
He immediately called Sylvia to inform her about the President's recognition banquet.
Sylvia chuckled softly. "He's taking advantage of my absence from Aettosa."
Clare was surprised by Sylvia's insight. "Sylvia... you mean?"
"Franklin is the so-called recognized son of the President. So, hosting this banquet means they've investigated me," Sylvia said coolly. "No worries, I'll show him what a surprise really is." "You... plan to return tomorrow? What about things here?" Clare asked, his heart racing.
"Logan is the CEO; he's not just for show," Sylvia replied, focused on finding out who took Gloria's life amidst the vast sea of people.
The Taking Life Array wasn't something easily set up. The most crucial aspect was sacrifice-willingly offering one's life.
Logan had investigated the account used for the payment, but it was an anonymous transfer.
Sylvia was currently tracking information on this anonymous person with her laptop.
As long as she could trace who made the transfer, she could follow the trail.
However, the other party had strong counter-surveillance skills and left no flaws.
Her fingers flew over the keyboard as lines of code refreshed on the screen.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Logan watched her typing away while several police officers walked around, occasionally peeking over her shoulder.
One officer whispered, "It's been half an hour; should we call in a technician from headquarters? She's supposed to be a top computer expert-is she really up to it?"
A female officer also approached and glanced at Sylvia's focused face. "I don't know much about computers either. Should we make a call?"
"Yeah, let's call! I've heard Avianal
from Crown Techs Group is pretty good; maybe we can get her," they whispered among themselves before reporting to their chief as he walked by.
They quickly informed him, "She says she can track down the payer's information: Chief, should we
request a top technician from headquarters? This is crucial for solving the case; if she can't do it, we're wasting time."
The chief pondered for a moment. "You're right; this case is important."
So the female officer began requesting a top computer expert from higher-ups, preferably Aviana from Crown Techs Group.
Just after making the call, Sylvia lifted her cold eyes and looked at them indifferently. "I've found it."
The female officer's jaw dropped. "What? You've found it?"
Sylvia nodded. "Yes, it's an offshore account at a Swiss bank under the name Charlie Poole."
She turned her laptop screen towards them, showing all of Charlie Poole's information.
Logan thought to himself, serves you right for doubting our boss.
The chief was also stunned by this beautiful woman's capabilities. "Is this real? You didn't just make up a name?"
"Yeah, you didn't just pick someone random and say they're the payer," added the female officer.
Sylvia glanced at them lazily. "Believe it or not."
But she remembered Charlie Poole; if they didn't want to investigate further, she would do it herself.
At that moment, a woman in high heels walked in with an air of authority. Upon seeing Sylvia's familiar figure, she was momentarily stunned before breaking into a joyful smile.
She quickly approached Sylvia and spoke excitedly, "Miss Andrews? Long time no see."
Everyone was shocked to see Aviana and couldn't believe their eyes.
Hearing Aviana's familiar voice, Sylvia smiled faintly. "Aviana, long time no see."
"Oh my! What are you guys doing? Miss Andrews is here; she's a top figure in the computer world! How could+show off in front of her?" Aviana said exasperatedly to the police chief.
The chief felt his face burn with embarrassment.
It wasn't intentional; it was just hard to believe such a beautiful woman could be an expert!
Aviana was Isla's aunt; Isla once liked Franklin but later got together with Soren.
"Aviana, take a look at this result I found," Sylvia said, showing her laptop screen to Aviana.
Aviana was at a loss for words. "Miss Andrews, you're a top expert; how could I question your findings? If I were tracking this, I might not have found anything!" Hearing Aviana's words left all the officers dumbfounded.
Unbelievable!
Aviana from Crown Techs Group actually admired Sylvia?
It seemed Sylvia's findings were accurate after all.
The police chief quickly ordered his team, "What are you standing around for? Go investigate Charlie Poole!"
He rubbed his hands together awkwardly before turning back to Sylvia. "Miss Andrews, I didn't realize you were such an expert! Earlier we..."
