Branch One Hundred and Eighty One
Emma could not believe that Jessica would ever treat her in that manner. She had known her as a gentle soul. She expected her to fall especially if she was talking about the baby. She did not even show a sign of concern about the baby in question.
Now she saw her plan failing before her eyes because she could not meet Xavier directly and she could not go for an interview as it was not hiring season. She sighed and decided to go back to re-strategize she had to get the prize once she had set her eyes on it.
After Emma left Jessica called Xavier, she was boiling at the audacity of that woman to enter into her restaurant and ramble about things like that to her.
“Hello baby,” Xavier said to her. Ever since he had complained to her about being too formal he had used different nicknames for her at intervals to show her how effective it is.
She could not deny it she actually felt warm whenever she heard them from him. He took the name calling very seriously and to the letter.
“Should I come over for lunch or would you come over?” she asked skipping the pleasantries.
Xavier could tell from the tone of her voice that something had pissed her off and he wondered what it could.
“I have a business call right before lunch so yes you should come,” he said.
He was not going to press her to spill anything over the phone. He would call the guards to ensure she was at least very safe. When he saw her he would ensure he knew why she was so prickly and try to solve the problem for her.
“Okay then,” she said dropping the phone from her ears. She wanted to rant to him but decided against doing it over the phone. She quickly finished up on lunch and put some other things in place.
The interior designers were putting all the finishing touches to the interior as she would have Mali inspect the restaurant before she began to teach her the tips for a restaurant.
It has always been her dream and here she was actualizing it. She had a dream but she gave up on it when it seemed like she would have to settle for Burke then. She never wanted to complain because she thought their love was okay to carry them but now that she was having this restaurant she did like it.
She said goodbye to everyone working at the restaurant and was driven by one of the bodyguards while the other one sat in front of him. She watched how alert they were and how the driver moved slowly.
She wished she could fly to see Xavier. She wanted him to hug her and tell her he had fixed it. She knew it sounded weak of her to say she wanted to rely on a man but for her, it would make her feel better even if he did not find a solution to the problem.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
When she entered Xavier’s office she walked up to the table dropping the lunch box on the center table along the way. Xavier was startled because she usually just sat waiting for him in the chair there but this time she was walking towards him.
She stood beside him and he could see her sad eyes. “What happened to you?” he asked standing up.
He was taken by another surprise when she went in for a hug her hands tightly wrapped around him and her head firmly pressed on his chest. He did not speak again as he waited for her to express herself.
She too did not know why she felt so emotional. She knew she would have handled the situation better than she did but she did not care. She liked the solution she was getting which was the warm embrace and the lingering cologne smell coming from Xavier.
He patted her head gently and she began to feel a bit relieved after the hug. She pulled herself away from him a bit but her hands were still wrapped around her.
“What happened?” he asked stroking her head and ticking bits of her hair behind her ears. He had been so work-consumed that he forgot to call the guards to find out why she was so sad.
“Must something happen for me to hug my husband?” she asked as if she was offended by his statement.
“Well, if it is just a hug then I love it,” he said with a smile. “But the sadness in your eyes and the tone of your voice when you called me earlier makes me think otherwise” he explained.
She must admit that he was a wise one. He could see she was sad and that her voice portrayed it. “Emma came to the restaurant” she complained loosening her hand from his waist.
In a bid to see his face, she was straining her neck by trying to hold on to him too. She took a step backward and was able to capture the expression on his face.
“What did she want?” he felt himself angry. How brazen was that woman? How dare she show up in front of Jessica when he had warned her against it.
“She was asking for a job here”
“What?”
“She was asking me to tell you to give her a job to sustain herself and her baby”
“So she kept the baby?” Xavier asked.
“That is what she claims, come to think of it her tummy was too flat and it did not look like she was pregnant”
Xavier nodded in affirmation even though he wanted to tell her that some people do not show. He thought against it because he knew it would be risky for him to seem to take her side now.
“I know what to do,” he said pulling her hands and taking her to the couch.
“What would you do?”
“Let’s file a restraining order against her”
“Do you think it would work?”
“At least now we might have a justification to punish her according to the law”
“That’s a fantastic idea,” she said planting a small kiss on his lips.
