A Lifetime 107
Alena
"No way, that would be impossible. Believe me," Lily said as she chuckled.
My eyes were focusing at the same spot where I saw him. When he had disappeared, I panicked but I tried to remain calm as much as possible without causing a scene even though I could feel my heart beating really fast-he was here, he was near
1. me.
I was traumatised by the things he did to me. He had made me experience different levels of pain and he enjoyed hearing me scream every night. I became terrified of him and all I ever wanted was to never see him again. However, if he kept showing up in front of me, he was going to make me suffer.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
I kept wishing for Matteo to find him and torture him. He needed to experience the pain he put me through but I knew it wasn't enough to torture him; he was a sadist, he wasn't going to be in pain from all the torture, he was probably going to enjoy every second of it. "Earth to Alena, hello? Alena?" Lily called out as she waved in front of me, trying to catch my attention
I blinked a few times before I turned to look at Lily and Zach. They were both staring at me, confused and slightly worried. I understood if they felt that way because we were just talking and having a proper conversation when I decided to zone out.
I was distracted by his presence.
"Uh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, sorry." I muttered before clearing my throat.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"You were not here
at all. Is there something wrong?"
It was normal to be concerned especially after what I went through but they didn't know I was kidnapped, they only knew I suffered after losing Marco. They knew it was hard on me mentally. I appreciated how much they cared about me but I didn't know what else to say. "I'm really sorry. I was just-you're right, I wasn't here."
"You can tell us if there's something wrong, Alena." Zach said, looking at me.
"I know. I really appreciate how much you guys care about me." I replied as I looked around, still looking for the man who had disappeared. He was supposed to be there, he was supposed to be right there where he was taunting me. He did it on purpose. "Actually, is it okay if I head back to the hospital? I'm feeling a little bit dizzy,"
Lily and Zach looked at each other before they nodded their heads.
"Of course. We totally understand," Lily responded.
I didn't waste any time as I went ahead to grab my things before walking out of the café. I had spared a few glances at my own surroundings incase he decided to appear again out of nowhere but luckily enough for me, he was nowhere to be found. I managed to walk back to the hospital safely and went straight to my office.
Once I was inside, I went to sit down in order to calm myself. My heart was beating fast and I could feel my palms beginning to sweat, as if everything around me was closing. My vision was going dark as soon as I tried to remember back his face. I
exa
couldn't breathe either.
DUL
The whole taunting was on purpose. He did that to scare me and it was a warning to let me know that he wasn't going to let me go that easily-I never understood why he wanted to come after me, I had nothing to do with him. He was probably doing it all to mess up with Papa or Matteo. Papa was confident it wasn't one of his enemies. As for Matteo, he admitted in having a lot of enemies and he just wanted to make sure I was protected, he wasn't sure which one of his enemies had the confident to mess with him.
I looked out at the window, still trying to calm myself down.
At least thirty-minutes had passed and I felt a little bit better. My heart was slowing down to beat normally and I wasn't anxious anymore. It could be a lot easier to calm myself down if Matteo was around but I didn't want to tell him yet, he was going to worry. If I told Matteo, he was going to come here and make a scene. He was probably going to make sure Angelo followed me around at work or worse, forbid me from going to work.
My husband wasn't going to risk anything after what happened. He had a lot to think about, he couldn't just let me do what I wanted until the culprit was caught. If I told Papa or Alexei about this, they were going to blame Matteo without hesitation. Even if it wasn't his fault to begin with.
However, this wasn't the time to think about that. If I ignored what happened today and decided to let it slide away, he was probably going to show up in front of me and it was going to be too late.
It was better to let Matteo know about what happened earlier. He could do something to prevent anything bad from happening; it was to ensure I remained safe.
I grabbed onto my phone before clicking onto Matteo's name, wanting to send him a quick text message about what happened.
However, a knock was heard on the door which caused me to immediately turn around as soon as I dropped my phone. A low curse had escaped my lips as someone came into my office, without waiting for my permission.
I looked
up
and saw one of the regular nurses.
"Dr. Orlov, you're needed at the emergency. Hurry," she said.
Then, she went down the hallway.
I had completely forgotten about sending Matteo a text message and placed my phone in my pocket. Just like that, I went to rush down the hallway and straight to emergency room where a lot of patients were groaning in pain, bleeding and screaming for help. My eyes wandered to the patients in surprise before I went to one of the doctors.
"What happened?" I asked.
"There was an accident. Two buses were involved," he replied.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath.
I spent the next few hours in the emergency room as I helped out the other doctors and nurses. They were attending to different patients and I needed to help them as well. Some of the patients suffered minor injuries but most of them was immediately sent to the operating theatre because of their injuries.
I was too busy to remember about what happened earlier during lunch.
All I could think about was to save their lives. It was my duty to ensure everyone could make it out of liere alive and I tried as hard as I could, forgetting my own life was in danger.
I didn't expect my first day to turn out this way but it was unavoidable.
When everything was almost settled, I glanced down at my wrist watch to check the time. It was almost nine in the evening and I had been busy for the past eight hours. I hadn't sat down, not even once. I didn't even have the time to have a drink of my water.
Now, I was sitting down the hallway as I took a break.
My mind was empty and the only thing I could think about was to go home and lay in bed. I only wanted to take a quick shower and head to sleep because I knew tomorrow was going to be another hard day at work-I had missed working when I was on leave, I almost forgot how chaotic it was things at the hospital.
My eyes were closed as I leaned against the wall.
"You okay there?" Zach asked, joining me on the floor.
I turned to look at him, "Oh, hey."
"I can't feel my legs anymore after all of that."
We had been standing for the past eight hours. We could barely feel our legs after everything slowed down. I was too exhausted and I couldn't even put it into words even if I tried.
A chuckle had left my lips, "I can't either."
"I'm glad it was over," he said.
"You're going home now?"
""Yeah, I'm exhausted."
"I'll see you tomorrow,"
We said goodbye and part our ways. I had grabbed onto my phone as I went back to my office, changing into a plain shirt because my
y scrub had a few blood stains. As I walked back to my office, I saw a few text manages from Matteo. He had sent
them a couple of hours ago.
'You must be busy.'
'I have a meeting later. We'll meet at home okay?'
'Love you!'
He wasn't going to be at home when I arrived later but I knew he was going to be. I grabbed onto my things before I walked quickly down the hallway, straight to my car. It didn't take me long to enter the car and went to drive home.
The drive home wasn't as stressful as this morning which I appreciated because I didn't need another stressful event to happen. I just wanted something relaxing and calming after what had happened at the hospital today, it was too much to handle especially for my first day back at work.
I listened to the music on the radio, loving how they were playing my favourite songs.
ome. I went to park my car in the garage and went to step inside the house. It was dark but a few lights Once I had arrived had been turned on, knowing Matteo had turned them on using the application on his phone-it was to make things easier for the both of us.
I went to the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water.
As I took a sip of my drink, I noticed the sliding door in the living room was unlocked.
