35 A Turn of Events

In the midst of Inga’s escalating fury, Mr. Carson Interceded with a firm hand.

“Inga, stop!” he commanded as Inga raged. “How dare she strike me! She’s nothing but an aide!”

Unmoved, Mr. Carson pushed Inga away, shielding Jada behind him. “Your actions warranted that slap. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

Maybe it’ll bring some sense into you,” he retorted, his voice icy with anger.

Inga, taken aback by Mr. Carson’s rare show of anger, stormed out, casting a final venomous look at

Jada. Jada instinctively knew the fight was far from over. But she will be ready any time, any day, to

confront Inga.

Turning to Jada, Mr. Carrson inquired, “Did Emma send you here?”

“Yes,” Jada admitted, “Emma guessed Inga would come with complaints. Lucky I got here just in time!”

Jada was still seething at Inga’s audacity but couldn’t help feeling a twinge of sadness, realizing Mr.

Carson saw her more like a sibling than anything else. She longed for more, but the fear of

unreciprocated feelings held her back.

Mr. Carson, seeming to read her thoughts, thanked her and suggested she focus on work. “You and

Emma should get back to the project.”

Jada wanted to reveal her true feelings, but Mr. Carson had already moved on. Disheartened, she left

his office, casting a backward glance at him returning to his work, seemingly unfazed.

Once alone, Mr. Carson massaged his temples, pondering how things had spiraled so out of control.

After work, Emma expressed her concerns about reconnecting with her old friend Morgan. “Do you

think Morgan really wants to see me? After everything, I thought she was done with me.”

Their friendship had suffered when Morgan declared it over if Emma married the wrong person. Now,

having realized her mistake, Emma hoped it wasn’t too late for reconciliation.

“Why didn’t v

you listen when Morgan warned you about him?” Jada reminded her.

Emma winced, regretting her blindness in love that had cost her so much.

“What’s done is done. I just hope Morgan will speak to me again,” Emma said, anxious.

“Don’t worry. Morgan reached out first. She’s willing to reconcile if you’ve really changed,” Jada

reassured her.

Grateful for a second chance, Emma reflected on how her priorities had shifted over time.

They arrived at their usual spot, the Midnight Lounge. Morgan was already there, exuding a cool,

androgynous vibe in her oversized suit and short, slick hair, sipping her drink.

“So, have you finally seen the light?” Morgan asked coolly, snuffing out her vape.

Emma nodded eagerly. “Absolutely. No more time wasted on the wrong people!”

Overjoyed, Emma rushed to hug Morgan, who returned the smile, accepting Emma’s newfound

wisdom.

“Welcome home, Emma.” Both ladies hugged tightly.
